First of all, there are a couple of options for software. Vista HP or Vista Ultimate would be worth a look due to their media centre software (very easy to set up). If going the Linux route, look into http://www.mythtv.org/. Although I haven't used it personally, I have heard very good things.

Connecting DVI to an old analog TV can either be very simple or impossible. If all you have is composite video, you might not have much luck unless your video card specifically comes with an adapter (most don't). However, if you have a component video, HDMI, VGA or DVI connection on your TV, it's a pretty easy matter to find an adapter (DVI to VGA, then VGA to whatever).

Hope that helps.

Hello!
What a great article. I have no idea how I got to this blog (seriously, I accidently clicked on something, and it opened?), but I'm definitely bookmarking it :)

I was wondering, seeing as you seem to be the helpful type, what I would need to do to create a media centre/server/NAS all in one box? I would like to connect it to my TV and use a digitial tuner (that I own) to watch TV, is there some sort of DVI to RCA converter?
I have access to spare systems. Other than following the steps in your article, can you think of anything more I would need to do?
